I just bought a Radial Pro 48 to use with my passive and active basses. I'm using it for live performance with the bands PA. The PA my band has is a very good setup. I was using the DI out on my Mark bass amp which worked fine but I was having issues with my little GK combo amp and decided to get a DI box. I chose the Radial Pro 48 because the reviews I read said it worked well with both passive and active basses. Anyone have any experience with this box?

It seems the Pro 48 and the J48 are basically the same.

They're not - I A/B'd them, and to my ears the Pro48 didn't sound any better than Behringer's DI100, whereas the J48 sounded noticeably better... I had the time to check them all out thru a good FOH at a club in the afternoon, while the place was empty...

I already ordered the Pro 48:-( I'll be using it for live performance. Do you think it will be ok for that? We always have PA support. My amp is really just so I can hear my self on stage...

The Pro48 will be fine for live performance. No one will be able to hear the difference in a gigging situation - even those with the "golden ear."

Thanks guys for all your input! I should be receiving it tomorrow just in time for my busy weekend. Friday evening I'm doing a street fair, Saturday I'm play a fund raiser with a bunch of other Long Island bands raising money for Sandy victims and Saturday night we have an out door gig at a really nice club.

Great use for a ProDI. Break a leg.

The Jensen transformer in the J48 is far superior. The Pro48 is "ok" but nowhere as full sounding as the J48.

Agreed on all of the above - probably the only reason why I could tell the difference is that I had the opportunity to listen to each thru the FOH with an empty venue, with the soundman also checking it out... In a live mix, the differences in sound will be much less pronounced - I was merely offering my experience on the matter...

I wasn't trying to be a contrarian. ;)

For my own band, when I'm the soundman, I use Radial stuff. Mostly a JDI on my Roscoe. Depending which amp I'm using, I often use the built in. (The one on the AER sounds great live.)

With other soundmen, I offer mine, or use theirs, if they'd prefer.

In the studio, it's a whole different ball game! I've used Avalon, Reddi, and my UAD LA 610 is also a fave.
