Radio Shack 250 watt PA

I was driving about in search for more pawn shops when I came across a GoodWill book store, but they had no books on bass guitars. Across the parking lot I saw a Radio Shack and pushed my bad back into the car and drove over there. They had no dedicated bass amps or combos, but a generic 250 watt PA amp with three mic inputs, no tone controls. Is this amp suitable for a bass head? (When I read reviews of Acoustic and Ampeg they seem to have quality issues lately, new amps dieing early, the dreaded Chinese disease.)

So, have any of you tried this amp bass playing? Does it need a pre amp, or is it all together a bad idea?

Is there something else, a gem I should be looking for in pawn shops?

Should I buy a guitar pre amp and use my home stereo for practicing?

Thanks.
