I've listened to Severed all the way through. There are some cool lines in there, but nothing that was all that fast. Martinie's an excellent player. It's a shame the singer doesn't share his tastefulness (example: the annoying, ill-enunciated screaming). He's a pretty good singer, but that annoying screaming seems to be a characteristic of all these "Nu-metal" bands. It all makes me sick. Mudvayne has a damn good rhythm section, and would be an even better band minus the singer IMHO. This is apparent in other bands as well....(limp bizkit)

faultline423 is exactly right. mudvayne's dig is a fun song to play but deffinitly not fast or hard for that matter

Yeah, Martinie is probably the best of the nu-metal bass players, but then i think a lot of them are actually quite good, its just harder to notice 'cos they're stuck behind crap guitarists and "singers" who scream like they're being circumcised with a rusty blunt knife.
I mean, Sam Rivers from Limp Bizkit isn't actually that bad and i love the bassline to Rearranged or whatever its called. And Fieldy from Korn ain't bad, and neithers the bloke from Disturbed.
I still wouldn't recommend listening to any of the above bands though.

Well it's interesting seeing everyone elses opinion again , but I still prefer Traa's bass playing skills in the long run. Sedge I think u should take a closer listen to this 'Buzz' guy because he is clearly 'disturbed' ,althogh I do agree with u that 'Re -arranged' is a smart bassline from Sam Rivers. It is good for the style of music he plays which is usually restricted, that is all I'm saying.You may as well not even mention Fieldy around here , but I know others that deserve
harsher criticism such as Slipknot's bassist and Twiggy or whatever he is called from Marilyn Mansons band. How dare he think that he can get away with playing a 2 string bass!!! That is a crime! On the other hand there are a lot of 5 string players in this 'Rap/nu metal' genre but a lot of them don't seem to make the most of it. Usually they are just playing their detuned B and E strings which aint good enough! At least Traa could play the bloody things and make good use of them , this is one of the many reasons why I respect him a lot more compared to all these other so called bass players in this genre. Because although his bass playing becomes limited , he still manages to sqeeze out some impresssive skills.

By theway does anyone know the name of the band (Mtv catergorizes them as nu skool punk??!!) with a bass player that plays a 7 string warwick?!(correct me if I'm wrong) I saw the video on Mtv recently and I noticed the bass player I think he was Hispanic and a bit plump. I was astonished seeing a 7 stringer bassist in this type of music , when he could be making the most of his skills in jazz or something, thats if he's any good.
Henry Rollins had a bassist, I think it was Andrew Weiss, who played a two stringer. Wow. He could play and do licks that sounded like they needed at least 3 strings

Has anyone heard the nu-metal band Alien Ant Farm? They're really new, and they just signed to Papa Roach's label, only they crap on Papa Roach from a great height. Their style is actually more Incubus, so i dunno if its fair to classify them as nu-metal.
Anyway, they're bassist kicks ass. You should check out some of their stuff if you get the chance to, and let me know if its just me that thinks hes good.

I have heard the name a few times Sedge , but I have not heard them. Actually I may have , anyone may have on radio or something , but knowone caught the name. Anyway do you have any idea who this bassist is who plays a 7 string Warwick? (read my last post)
I for one, am happy that there is some cool up front bass entering into the mainstream rock/metal. Far less boring than the old "support the guirtarist and his ego" style. -B
Traa is one of my favorite bassists right now. He's definitly very good, and if you need an example, listen to "Hollywood," "Set Your Eyes To Zion," and the bonus track. He's laying down some pretty funky bass for a rapcore/nu metal band. Another favorite bassist of mine is Steve from Project 86. He is just os fast (listen to the solo on "Stien's Theme") and he's such an intregal part of their sound. A lot of P86's song have bass as their lead instrument (Stien's Theme, Me Against Me, Chimes, Sad Machines)
yeah the bass player i heard is from a band called ButterFly Fuzz he freekin thinks up some crazy stuff on the bass. completely original!!!!
