Nice tutorial, but that's Bernard Edwards' bassline from Good Times. Sugarhill Gang just sampled it.
The baseline is not a sample...it was re-recorded by my good friend, Chip Shearin.look him up when u have time
I too seem to remember hearing that the sugarhill line is not a straight rip off the recording.
They changed one note I think.
The turnaround on the rappers delight version seems to be on g rather than what I hear as f# on the original.(Very last note of the groove...)

It actually slides from F# to G on the turnaround
Yes. He kind of does.
To my ear the f# comes over a little more prominently though.
