Rat-type distortion for high output active bass

What did you prefer about the Fuzzrocious?

Just the way the RT/CT grinds on the hi-mids. I run mine in LED mode. It was more focused and grindy. The DSOM was cool too and had a lot of output. It wasn't as crisp though. Plus the 2nd gain option on the RT/CT is great. Pairing them together I get some sag which I like a lot.

Concerning the Idiotbox Blower Box, I will say this. I have used it with a very hot P bass (DiMarzio Will Power Middles) and it does great, however my Ibanez SRX3EX, SR500, CTB5, and hordes of other active basses are just too much for it. Unless you have an extremely light touch, it just can't handle it. MXR Bass Distortion has the same problem, the boxes really favor a lower-gain output if you want to play with any dynamics. That being said, I swear by the Blower Box and absolutely love it...with my passives.

Concerning the Idiotbox Blower Box, I will say this. I have used it with a very hot P bass (DiMarzio Will Power Middles) and it does great, however my Ibanez SRX3EX, SR500, CTB5, and hordes of other active basses are just too much for it. I too have this problem with my Blower Box and my Epiphone Thunderbird Pro. The Pro is active, and the Blower Box just doesn't mix with it at all. It works fine with all my passive basses, but my Thunderbird is my fav bass, and I'm kinda bummed I cant use the BB with it.

If it's your go-to bass, you could try and lower the volume on it, but I have mixed results when doing that. A preamp that is truly flat when set flat (like an Audere), would give you the option to do that without coloring the natural tone of the pickups unless adding EQ. In general though, I like to do the "set it and forget it" method with my basses, so I'm pretty much just stuck to passives with the BB lol

Thanks for the advise Plucky. I tried everything, lowered the volume on my bass, the pedal, the eq, etc.
Nothing helps. I've read others don't have this problem with their active basses and the BB. Its strange, only you and I seem to have this problem.

The awesomeness of our basses plus the BB is too much for any amp to handle...fairly certain that noise is the universe begging for mercy

Try a grizzly. It allows you to cut a ton of highs out and it plays nice with my ebmm sterling. The Blower Box was too fizzy.

MXR BD user here. It handles my L2K pretty well, and that's a lot to say, I think.
