Rate my college music supplement

Hi, I am a senior in high school and I am applying early decision to a school so I sent in my application along with this music supplement (not audition, as I am not going to major in music). I'd really love to have some feedback on my playing, the feel, the video, whatever. Here is the video:
It is Footprints, and I am playing fretless, oboe, guitar, and drums on it. I'd just like to give two caveats-1) recording oboe is a bitch and 2) I would never call myself a talented drummers. Any feedback is much appreciated, good or bad. But if you want to chew me out, it'd be nice if it was constructive, haha! :hiding: I also did Satin Doll, but that video is not ready yet. Almost forgot, recording setup for the bass was my Schecter Studio 5 fretless into my Yorkville XS800H head, with a direct out into a Presonus Firepod.

1. I didn't like the bass intro.

2. The changes in the real book for footprints are wrong.

3. I was surprised, I liked the oboe. I'm not sure what is required from a music supplement, but it looks like it would do a good job of fulfilling it. Do you know what kind of people will be listening to this for your application? (music people or non?)

I didnt like the bass intro either. There was no definition on the low end of things .
I didnt like the drum parts really...the snare especially.
I really liked the oboe!
Overall I think there were alot of timing issues between the instruments.
Why do you have to send in a music supplement??

Well I didn't have to send one in, I just wanted to so that I could show that I could play and stuff. I think the people from the actual jazz department will be listening to it, but it could be the people who are actually looking at my application, I'm not sure.
I wasn't playing the Real book footprints changes, at least not the turnarounds, unless what I was playing was wrong? (F#-F-E-D# for that turnaround).
Like I said, I'm an awful drummer and I don't really know how to tune them/record them well, so that might have something to do with it.
Agreed on the bass intro, I don't feel that strongly about it and it's probably the first thing I'd redo if I had the time. My amp does not seem to record really well specifically through the DI out, especially for solo stuff. Also, what do you mean specifically by timing issues?

Also, Brivello, I saw on your profile that you took/take lessons with Mike Boone? I met him at a Kimmel center summer jazz thing and I will probably be taking upright lessons from him at the end of this year when I have time to. He's a super cool dude. You ever go to his jam at Ortlieb's? I always want to but I always have to wake up for school the next day so I never end up going.

I'd say that at your experience level it's a pretty good testament to your abilities. I think a lot can be said for someone who can put together an entire piece with different instruments like you did. IOW, it shows you have raw talent and drive which are very important to music instructors IME.

I agree with everything said, the bass intro, I will agree as well was a bit long winded and without much direction. But most kids I know who came out of high school doing music weren't at this level, but my music program was a bit weak.

But yeah, the vid shows you are at a very decent level for a young guy and I'm sure it will do you well.

i honestly did not like it. sorry. maybe its cuz im not a jazz guy for the most part. but the intro was ehhh and the drumming was not that good. i think the fact that the intro turned me off to the piece, set my mood towards the rest of it. its prolly not that bad, but i just couldnt listen to it.

I wasn't a fan of the bass intro.. yet I thought the bass sounded great and was very tasteful through the rest of the piece. Something also sounded out of tune once the oboe came in... I might just be ignorant... but I felt like something was a little flat that whole duration of those parts.

Either way, I'm just giving constructive criticism. I won't say anything about the drumming because you're fully aware and, for not being a drummer I thought it was a adequate job.

Overall. Not too shabby!
