Rate my FIRST FULL RECORDING! I used audacity and recorded 3 instruments.

OK, so i listened to the WHOLE thing this time. My speakers hate me, but we'll put that to one side for now.

The ONE thing that really brings out the unsyncedness for me was the ending. To me it seemed as if the bass was really behind the guitar outro, timeing wise. Dont even ask me to figure out where the drums are in all this.....

its easy to get offended by some of these replies but be happy that they are taking the time to tell you what they think. In time and after more recordings youll learn how to utilize peoples vocal and non-vocal responses....if your serious about music you will get past trying to impress people and not get upset if people dont like it. Take the time to listen again to what you posted and learn from it. What you have posted has in way warrented your reaction to peoples comments....just relax, study, and get your timing down along with developing some type of melody and playing around that.

good luck and dont be afraid to post again once you have worked out some of the issues....this is a great place to get feedback and still kind of hide ...so keep at it.

*sigh* It's funny how I'm being insulted about my whole song rather than people telling me what's wrong with it and answering my questions. I'm going to go ahead and say, this is better than any of your blink 182 crap where the musical instruments are lacking in interest(exception for the drums).

I'd hate to be this harsh, I never am, but if you can't hear what is wrong with the song you posted: Stop playing music.

Nothing is in time with anything else; melodically... everything was disconnected. If you really do have a passion for music, get some lessons. Don't rush into recording: It's not important to have people hear you play until you are 100% that you are ready to have people hear you play.

I'd also say focus on one instrument at a time, because you aren't good at any of the instruments on the track you recorded. If you are, then it wasn't displayed here.

Work on your timing and gain a general understanding of theory. I'm not trying to be a dick, but you REALLY need to give that track another listen and think about where you want to go musically. I really do apologize for being brutal about this, but if you don't have people tell you that you suck, you don't get better. Best of luck with your future musical adventures.

I was gonna write something, but I chose to wait, so that I would be provoked for a response. Not a good behavior on my part, but it is what it is...

It is absolutely innovative and fresh piece of art. It takes some time to get it, but when you do, it rapidly grows in you. Compared to Blink 182 and sound-a-likes, this is much more complex and tasteful with the hints of modern fusion jazz, blended with early Chicago blues.

When you listen to a song like this, you shouldn't be focused on timing errors, sense of rhythm, instrument proficiency or record quality. What you need to focus is the core of the song and how it makes you feel. It is not easy to track each and every instrument doing something seemingly random. However, those parts are combined with such a natural harmony, you don't need to do that. Those are special for the creator himself anyway. All you need to do, lay back and just allow yourself to be captured with this chaotic yet relaxing tune.

This is a song that I made up, I play all the instruments(bass, rhythm and lead guitar, and drums). The bass can barely be heard , only at the beginning, because if i turned it up any louder it would sound really annoying. I just want you all to rate how the song is overall. Here are some other questions:

1. How was my drumming (for a person who has been playing for 6 months)?

2. Did I keep the rhythm up?(I played the same thing over and over for the guitar, bass, and drums, so I'm assuming it was)

3. I showed this to my friends and they thought it was bad because I wasnt playing the solo in scale. Can someone rate my solo just by itself and how it was with the song?

Ok... I will answer your questions man.
1) Your drumming was mediocre for 6 months. I have a friend who has learnt for a year and can do all the BLINK stuff that you seem to diss.
Don't diss Blink, go back and check out dude ranch, buddha and come back to me. Drummers job is to go 1,2,3,4 in time. Work on that.

2) I don't even understand this question but if you mean was eveything in sync? Then no man, you need a click track when you record and you need to stick to it. When you practice, play to a metronome so that you get more and more comfortable with it.

3) With solo's unless you really have your theory down, and I mean Down real good, then less is more. If you want to hear some nice tasteful solos then go listen to Dude ranch or Buddha by blink 182, I know you love them so much


But really, there were some ideas in that song. The rythm guitar sounded decent, albeit, out of time a little, the solo should have been played tastefully, not over the whole track... and this is a bass forum.... so turn the bass up on the track dude.

I havent heard but clearly Son, you need to get to drill on music , not on epic recordings... drill drill learn and drill...try and have fun doin' it, I use aud for lesson work.. WHITE funk and other chop stuff.
Oh, and let me clue ya so it doesnt take you too long to figure it out, your music lessons WILL include jamming with other musicians, while I applaud your one man does it all recording stature, the process is, you learn, drill, learn JAM LEARN, learn drill learn JAM LEARN, learn drill, lean JAM LEARN.... dig...?

Dont fret too much of others opinions just yet, but learn to

First good on you for having the balls to post your first ever recording. Not expecting a studio quality recording but I think most were expecting a song or something coherent. It sounded like each instrument was playing a different song. Did you listen to the other tracks as you were recording the next or just select a new track and hit record going at it blind (or in this case deaf)? To me this sounded like you don't know how to use whatever device you used to record with. At any rate to answer your questions:

1 - The drumming wasn't too hot
2 - Nothing on that track is in time with anything
3 - The solo was out of key for the most part. There isn't anyway to rate it if it doesn't fit it doesn't fit

Don't be a douche to people when they're trying to help you out. If you're going to post something that rough and ask for a critique you kind have to expect negative comments. Blink 182 my not have been virtuosos but at least all the instruments are playing the same song. That recording you posted is pretty much the worst thing I've ever heard. My dogs were lying beside my computer chair asleep and when your tune came on they bolted faster than they would it I said the word bath or turned the vacuum on.

You've already been given good advice regarding scratch tracks and what not. I would say take that advice. If you can get someone to teach you how to record track by track that might be helpful. Good luck next time.

If I understood correctly, he thinks this song is better than Blink 182 songs in general, based on the arguement that suggests blink 182 instruments are not as interesting as this one's, with the exception of drums of course.

I agree with this comment. Rather than counting how many times Al Pacino blinked in the movie Scarface (hence Blink 182), they should have been really focusing on bringing a more interesting instrument to the band, such as lute or bongo.

I read the first few posts on this thread and don't really feel like reading the rest. But like some others said, it's not on time at all. With that said, what version of Audacity are you using? If it's the 1.3 beta, than that could be the issue as you get a really bad delay when recording on it.

I've done a recording with the original audacity as well and seem to get a delay with it too though. I've got a Motown bass book with cd that has the tracks without bass to let you play along.

Now that's not perfect. I'm still a beginner and will probably always be a beginner. But when I recorded that (I used the Line6 Toneport GX and Audacity), I had to record the bass part in sections. I couldn't get through the whole song in one recording. No matter how good and on time it sounded to my ears, when I played it back...I would have delay issues and parts where I speeded up in spots to try and get rid of the delay. Maybe it is my playing?

And that's all I got to say about that...

i don't think it's possible for anyone to give constructive criticism on this because we can't hear how the instruments are actually interacting because they are COMPLETELY out of sync, and together make no sense, so if your recording was more in time with itself it would be much easier for everyone to help you better your playing, etc.
