RATM bass tone

hi,
I play in a rage against the machine cover band and I am trying to get a nice tone to play their songs... I am using a marshall all valve head with a 4 x 12' and a jazz bass.... oh, and a boss overdrive.

so I ask your advice to get a bass tone similar to tim C one...

I know all the effects and stuff he uses, so I am not asking what should I buy to get a similar tone, I am asking how to setup my amp and bass to play RATM songs...

things like pickups volumes, tone, middle, bass, treble...

someone told me to turn down the mids on the amp... but I am not sure Tim does this.

I also noticed Tim uses lots of gain on the live album, but I don't want that kind of tone, it's too muddy to me...even if I also keep gain quite high, I am trying to recreate the sound he has on the studio cds... something a little cleaner than his live sound

any suggestions??

To truly recreate his tone, you probably will need two amps. From what I read, his tone on older albums was one amp with a heavy distortion and one with a light distortion (probably similar to an overdriven tube amp)

Nowadays, he is up to three amps, so it is probably harder to recreate.

To start with I would: turn both volumes on the bass on completely, overdrive your amp a tad, boost the bass and low mids, roll off the highs little, and experiment with the tone control setting on your bass.
