Double Bass Ray brown book disappointing

A teacher should be also someone who is a guide, a role model that not only teaches musical facts but also addresses personality values - here it feels to me like Marsalis himself may have some deficits in respect to his "being teacher" attitude.

Incidentally, I saw Brandford a few years ago and during his master class he was talking about the fact he still gets lessons. His story went that he was a on a gig and a saxophonist walks up to him at the end and says it was a great set but he was surprised Brandford could get a note out of the instrument with his technique. After talking to the guy he discovers he is a classical saxophonist and Brandford ended up starting lessons with him which he said he was still getting the time.

I had a question that probably doesn’t deserve and entire thread.
The pictures that I posted from the book were mostly scales on a single string. The fingerings were interesting.
I was just looking at I tune with a repeating Ab Bb C Bb all on the G string Half notes 2 bars medium tempo. I think some of the books that I have seen would recommend 1Ab 2Bb 4C 2Bb.
It seems to me the best option is 1Ab 4Bb 4C 1Bb because going from the Bb to the C you just put 1 where 4 used to be .

What would you all use.?

What edition are you using? I have a couple different editions and the one that's in front of me right now does have the suggested concept and logic for everything in thumb position. Same one that my mentor Richard Davis teaches. Feel free to message me and would be happy to show you! I went through all the Simandl's with Richard and looking through the Ray Brown book all the fingerings look easy.

Yeah, Im into 1-Ab > 1-Bb >4-C >4-Bb >1-Ab....unless emphasis dictates something different, perhaps on the way down, 4-C > 1-Bb >1-Ab. There are times when that better suits the line and emphasis....
