Ray34 Maple vs Roasted Maple

I regret selling my Ray34 but it has come back up for sale. It had the older, regular maple neck.

Also for sale, for the same price, is a newer Ray34 with the roasted maple neck.

What does the roasted maple add to the bass? Is it a significant improvement? I’d prefer to buy my exact old bass from the guy I sold it to but I’d be open to the newer model if it’s a big difference.

Other than looks I don’t hear any difference in tone between the 2. Warmoth did a comparison video on YouTube and everything else being equal there was no difference.

Yeah pretty much just appearance at this point. There may well be truth to the climate stability of heat-treated maple, but that requires the scientific method to prove or disprove.
Just go with which one looks cooler to you!
