Real or fake stingray?

Just my observation - enforcement of the "supporting members only" rule seems (quite appropriately) stringent if it's a seller asking "how much can I get for this"; there has occasionally been more leniency for a potential buyer asking "is this worth what the seller is asking" - but I don't think the actual rule statement makes any such distinction (and so would not want to break the rule either way, myself).

I asked in a thread somone else started. The main reason they got upset was that I did it just to do it, because they said I couldn't.
Seriously? Were you selling or buying? You are allowed to get price quotes for items you are thinking of buying without supporting membership. You only need a membership if you intend of selling the item, since the "price check" reads like a FS ad.

There were a few threads about six months ago where Chef and another moderator discussed it, I cannot remember the name of the threads (one was somebody asking for a price quote.)
