real standby - switch

Someone made me a real switch - standby, so I can choose between my bassguitar and my double bass. With the same pedal I can put my effects in standby. It's working OK except ... when I press one of the buttons, it makes a lot of noice. A kind of "plop" or "tok".
What's the problem and how can it be fixed?

I think he means the switch makes a lound click as you press it down, like a mechanical thing.

It's a kind of click indeed, sometimes it's loud, sometimes not .
