I wouldn't say this is bizarre, but it's certainly different:
I don't have any recordings handy, but circa 1978 my high school band used to cover the theme song from "The Flintstones" but done as smarmy/schmaltzy lounge-jazz treacle with a new set of lyrics I wrote describing Fred as a functional alcoholic who beat his kids & dog.
We all know this one, I personally prefer it to the original.
Then they did it to themselves, with even stranger results...I knew someone would beat me to it, but I agree. Weird and awesome. I also prefer it to the original.
