Really good video game basslines

If you want truly fantastic basslines, you have to find a game that revolves around the music: Jet Set Radio Future.


Funky Dealer, a song with a bassline that makes you want to jump up and rip off your shirt like Flea.

Toejam and Earl 2 is even better, in my humble opinion, as far as music goes. I enjoyed the crap out of that game simply because of the music, I think - not to mention it's unique theme and visual style. Classic.

To this day I still rehearse bass lines from the Mega Man X series. Although those were synthesized bass lines, there are still techniques and certain creative approaches to structuring bass lines that can be learned from these tracks.

Some awesome tracks mentioned here but I guarantee you nobody has ever heard of this game let alone played it, but Shining Wisdom for Sega Saturn, the game is alright, it is another Zelda clone but the music, wow.

You leave the first area for the main world and you are treated with some normal, jazzy music, that all of the sudden breaks out in 11/8 (I had to count it because I was tapping my toe then WTFUDGE!). The first town also has some music that breaks down into a bar of 5/8, followed by a bar of 6/8 then a couple bars of 8/8.

I had never heard a music depart from 4/4, it was pretty killer.

Seriously, any good RPG game, like Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest, the 'Tales' series... the Pokemon series, etc. is gonna have sweet music, and some killer bass lines.

You're right, now that I'm thinking about it. The synth basslines from the first Pokemon games were great.

Sonic Adventure 2 as well. I'm still annoyed that I can't slap, because I love the City Escape theme.

It was good, but nowhere near the same level as the first IMO. City Escape is one of the better ones, along with all of the menu screens.

I never stop and thinking like : "oh man this bass line is really nice" or whatever how you want to words it and this is no matter the type of music. Why ? because a bass line outside of his context is pretty boring. If the music is good and fit the moods, I will like it.

All the themes that steve vai and martin O'Donnell did for halo. Pretty sure hans zimmer did some video game themes. I'm sure there are alot of really good ones, I'm just too lazy to go through the list of my 170 steam games lol. Sales, ya know how it is

There was another video game for the Super Nintendo called "Ninja Warriors Again". It has some KILLER synthesized slap bass lines. Some of the lines are fast, crazy, and complex. It would probably take a really long time and a lot of skill to be able to play this manually...at least for me.

Not only was the music super-action-packed, but the game was loads of fun!

I've always liked the basslines to In Amber Clad and A Walk in the Woods off the Halo soundtracks. The Super Meat Boy world map theme also has a really cool bassline.

I just downloaded the "Funky Dealer" track from Jet Set Radio Future. Awesome slap bass line! I wonder if it was an actual bass player performing that or if it was synthesized.

The bassline in the opening theme from Secret of Mana is epic. Too bad it's too short.

Any megaman game. Especially the old school X series - Megaman X, X2, and X3 had ridiculous guitar and bass shredding

My favorite music in a game still goes to Sonic the Hedgehog 2. And it has some killer bass
There's some rocking bass driving the first level


The Mystic cave theme is the reason I learnt how to slap


And then the boss fight has some killer octave gallops
