OCTAVE DOWN SAMPLE

First is just the dry signal, no effect, POG off,
Second is the octave down ONLY,
Third is the dry and octave down signal mixed together,
Fourth is the octave down ONLY, while I detune the E string after the little run.

The speakers will stop outputting signal before the POG stops tracking. This thing IS AWESOME.

I'd never thought I'd find a way to emulate that without going MIDI or V-Bass, somewhere I have no desire to go due to the complication and financial aspect, but considering the quality of tone I'm hearing from the POG in that aspect as well as the octave-string aspects (I have electronically emulated a 10-string with my Bass Whammy, but the massive degradation of tone I realized once I upgraded my amplification caused me to remove it from my signal.. perhaps a Looper should be in my future) may have just caused it to just to the top of my Xmas list.

Thanks for the ocatave samples. Looks like the POG jumped way up on the list of things to get. I tried one at GC and it sounded like crap. I think they had the wrong power supply hooked up to it, but they swore that it was the right one.

I'm not trying to induce major GAS pains for anyone with these clips, but this is a SOLID piece of gear. I'm very glad that I got something I will USE for my BXT cab that was just sitting. That's a good trade.

Dude..., unless the clip/pedal REALLY sucks, said clip will induce GAS pains in the majority of the effects forum population...

keep in mind, it takes a fair bit of tweaking and understanding to get it sounding good, rather than just cool.... particularly in respect to the low pass filter.

So true, and I guess it really goes for any piece of new gear. There are few things that will sound perfect "right out of the box". The LP filter was something I didn't think I'd ever touch, but it makes a pretty massive difference. I generally have been keeping the LP switch on Mode 1 (only affecting the effects, not the dry signal) only because I dig my tone so much. I've worked hard to get THAT to an acceptable level, I don't really want any effect messing with it. The dry output seems to really leave the dry tone untouched and uncoloured, too, which is excellent.

My only wish is for an expression pedal that would control the LP filter.....and I think the HOG has that option.

Seriously though, theres something about an actuall photo that sets me off for new gear...I can see website shots, but its a gigging photo or even just a pedalboard shot that really makes me want something. (so nice try!!)

I'm with you 100%. The Deep Purple samples had the LP at around 75% and Mode 3 on.

So I picked mine up today (and thought I'd post here as this is the thread that started it all). NOt much to add, except that I didn't think this pedal could actually live up to the hype; but it really does. Tracks perfectly, organ sounds are surprisingly good (in a comically large and cheesy, but incredibly fun kind of way)

THe only complaint is that theres almost to many possibilities, and I can't leave it alone. I can't remember if this was mentioned, but playing with the low pass filter is key. I like mode one, and a little under 50% on the frequency slider. I'm used to octave pedals being fairly boomy and it does this and a few other variations.

I think that my E string sounds a little odd, but I can't quite say how... the tracking is fine, it just sounds a bit more artificial than the others. Theres a little bit of noise with the unaffected slider up above about 40%. the input slider affects this, and my setup now is terible as far as interference goes.

I dunno... I thinkthe pedal was well worth the cash,but if EHX did a nano version with 2 LPF positions, an octave down, and unaffected slider, it'd be glorious and probably help a large amount of people find an octave down pedal.

Thats all for now. I can't wait to get the mammoth I'm about to order and squeeze him through this!!

Well, my POG finally arrived! Got to test it for a bit this weekend and it seems like it will be great fun. Most reviews refer to it as sounding quite digital, and that surely is the case. The "detuned" sliders really bring it to the forefront, sounding very similar to an undersampled MP3 file. It is mostly noticeable when you bring the +2 octave into the mix, but is something I can look past. I got it mainly for the Hammond organ-ish sounds and for an octave down effect. The tracking is superb, though it can get a little warbly with lower notes on four string chording. It will be a welcome addition, even to someone that's never really been a "pedal person".

I recorded a quick sample of what I affectionately call the "Deep Purple" setting. The distortion is from my PBDDI, everything else is POG oriented. I rubbed the strings at the beginning to show the digital warble I was hearing, but it didn't really come through. And the little "whammy" effect was from me pulling the string off the fretboard, it was really late when I recorded this, so I surely wasn't at my finest!

i really like metallic sound that thing makes.

it does take some fiddling... but once you really know what everything does and how it all works together, you can easily dial in killer sounds. the LP slider is one of the most useful things on that pedal, for sure. i'm a fan of mode 1 as well, though i like the slider up to about 65-75%.

i actually asked the good folks at EHX about this. i got a reply from mike matthews himself, which was that the IC needed for the POG to work the way it works (perfect tracking, etc....) is just too big to fit into a smaller housing. it's definitely something they've considered, and it's not really off the drawing board, but... it's a tough one.

hopefully it'll happen! i think they'd nab a HUGE amount of bass players with something like that.
