I dunno... that hog looks pretty complicated. There's pretty much no way I could ever use it to its full potential. It was a good try, but my GAS is satiated for the moment. :)

That no nano from EHX is a little dissapointing, but someone should get it downsized eventually. Otherwise, I'm pretty content with the pedal the way it is.


Unfortunately, its mostly because I've already been looking around at some kind of envelope filter. :help: Such a sad addiction. I think an intervention or support group is in order, but I'm pretty sure it'd degenerate into something an aweful lot like the "post your pedalboard" thread.

OK guys. I have one of these and I haven't fiddled with it enough. I'm now in a four piece band that functions sometimes like a power trio. So I've been trying to use it more now to fill in the space a little. The problem I'm getting is that it sounds too metalic or synthetic when engaged.

So from what I'm reading, if I want an uneffected bass sound, I should set it to mode #1, put the LP under 50%. Where do I set the input, dry signal and the -1 or +1 octive to make it sound like I'm just playing an 8 stringed bass. No jokes like "just go out and buy an eight string bass" because I'm just not. Thanks in advance.

Another problem I've noticed: When it's not engaged, it softens my tone. If I unplug it from my chain, my tone tightens up again.

I'd say you want mode one, dry output around 75, octave down in the same ballpark (a little lower or higher depending on how you like it) if you want octave down, and octave up around 60% if you want the octave up. Output set to match when on or off (or boost if you like that) and tweak the lowpas with a note ringing to find the ballance the octave up against being too metalic. This is of course just a basic idea, and tweak to suit your needs from their.

As for the tone change, i haven't noticed that, although mine does hum a bit.. not seriously, but enough that it'd be noticed in a recording... anyone else have that going?

mode #1 for sure. that leaves the "dry signal" unaffected.

i use it as a thickener... my settings are
gain: about 1/3 up. so it's the same level as the unengaged signal, and it's not at the point of distortion.
dry: all the way up.
sub-octave: about halfway up.
+1 oct, +1 oct detuned: both set about 1/4 up.
+2 oct, +2 oct detuned: both set just a little lower than +1 up.
LP filter: about 60-75% up.
LP mode: 1.

i use mine in a subtle way. it makes the bass sound much thicker. i don't use it to accentuate the upper octaves too much... just a little. i may experiment with adding a little more +1 octave in. but those settings (or close to them) should serve as a good starting point.

by the way, i'm using a passive fender jazz. your gain and LP filter settings especially willl vary depending on your bass. i'd say if you're going to turn up the upper octaves, then the LP filter should be a little closer to 50% so it doesn't sound metallic.

the pog, like manymanymany other electro-harmonix pedals, is a little noisy. i don't think there's much to be done about this. as others before me have said, "it's part of the charm."

maybe get one of eh's 'hum debugger' pedals.

Yeah, its not even really apparant when I'm playing, but for the amount the pedal cost it'd be nice if it didn't. Oh well, I'll just get used to saying its part of the charm.
