Recession and the music biz

Hi Justin,

I posted this in the "miscellaneous" section but i'm curious to have the take of a professional musician on this as well.


How do you foresee the music biz situation with a recession looming?

Do you think it will be unaffected?
Do you think people will go out to shows less and buy even less music?
Do you think some of us will have to get a day job to make up for a slow period of gigs?
Or do you think people will want to be entertained more to help get their minds off hard times?

- it's already been affected
- yes, they'll buy less music and go to fewer gigs, but not that much less. I'm seeing it on the NIN tour, but it's very very subtle. It's still packed arenas, but it's way more expensive for the bands. Yes, people need it when times are tight, as well...so that's another side of the coin.
- of course, some people might need a day job...that's probably inevitable. What goes down, must eventually come up, though. So it's temporary, I feel.
