Years ago I was a young full time musician. I had a 65 fender Coronado II bass (hollow body), and a 70s fender jazz. I used a peavey amp with the big 18 cerwin vega cabinet. I loved the deep and loud sound. A thief stole the head, so I used a PA head, and Im thinking it was peavey as well. It still sounded good. But it was to bulky and heavy, so I bought a peavey 400 amp 2x15, which was a little bulky but not as heavy. I never did like it as much, but wasnt working as much either.
I still have the 400 amp and fenders, and although Im basically retired from playing, I would still like the option to play. I play blues, R&B, and classic rock. I played peavey firebass through my cabinet and my bass came alive again but I cant find a firebass locally, nor do I know if its the best choice. Can anyone recommend a head for me that wouldnt cost too much. I am still retired and would have a hard time justifying anything too much over $300.
