Double Bass Recommend a teacher in Boston

Sorry for what must be the 100th thread on this topic, but I need some help here.

I've played DB for 14 years and haven't had a lesson in maybe 6-7 years. It's time again. Trouble is, I can't decide where to start.

I currently play in two groups:

1. 1. A bluegrass band, where I take a lot of solos with the bow. I want to take this from being a novelty act to being really expressive and musical.
2. 2. A Bela Fleck / Edgar Meyer type trio with much odd-time, through composition and improvisation both pizz and arco.

I need to work on my bowed sound and articulation. I would also love guidance on stylistic issues and finding my own voice during all those damn arco solos. I'd also like help weaning myself from trying to sound like Edgar Meyer.

Do you recommend a classical teacher? an arco-savvy jazz teacher?

I've studied with some good teachers in the past, but have lost their contact info and I'm not sure where to start. I also have a day-career that's not music, so need someone who can teach privately. No going back to school for me just now.

I study with Bruce Gertz through Berklee. Bruce totally sounds like what u are looking for. I know that he teaches privately too. Also try Greg Mooter and the teachers at New England Conservatory and Boston Conservatory.

Not to totally hijack this thread, but I'm moving to Boston in a few months and want to find a classical teacher. I'm a 'talented amateur' who's been playing for over 15 years- I'm never going to amount to anything more than a capable community orchestra bassist, but I still want to work on my technique and sound.

I figure the teachers at the conservatories wouldn't want to waste their time giving me occasional lessons, but perhaps their students might? Anyone have a teacher they really like? I play French bow and would prefer a teacher who plays French.

Dave Hollender is a great classical player (hi is in the Boston Philharmonic) AND a great bluegrass player (he also plays banjo). He teaches at Berklee, you might be ab;e to get his contact info from them.
