Recommend Any Distortion Pedals?

I'm a big fan of metalcore/deathcore, and I'm looking to start a five-piece deathcore band with several of my friends. I'm looking to begin using a tone technique very common in that scene for studio sound, but not commonly done live (among the well-known bands in the genre, anyway), which is either simply splitting your signal into two chains, running one through a standard rock-style bass signal chain, but running the other through a guitar amp and/or pedal for a really aggressive distorted sound that maintains its low end (this is also commonly done with a crossover splitter, sending the low and high ends through different signal paths) . I know it is done frequently, but the bands I listen to and attend the concerts of don't frequently do this (or reveal it on their gear rundowns). So, my question is, can anyone recommend a distortion pedal (probably a guitar one) for the top end of my sound? For reference, the bands I'm talking about are Of Mice & Men, Upon A Burning Body, Chelsea Grin, Whitechapel, etc. (I know, I know. They're not real metal. I'm ready for the hate XD)

There are many distortion pedals to choose from. The darkglass distortion pedals are the most recommend bass distortion pedals for rock and metal music. If it's a guitar distortion you want, check out the digitech hardwire sc-2 valve distortion the tl-2 metal distortion pedal. These pedals sound phenomenal on bass.

I let a metal core bassist use my pedal board once and it sounded sweet to my ears. He was mostly using my Tech 21 Sansamp bass driver and my Fulltone OCD

I can recommend the OCD. I have one, and I love the in your face sound, but it does rob some of the bass. With a dual amp rig, that's not a problem.

I'm saving up for a Darkglass Vintage MicroTubes, but currently I'm using a Mooer Green Mile (TubeScreamer clone) which retains the lows well on the 'hot' setting. The 'warm' setting gives crunchy mids and lets you cut through, but really looses the oomph. Mooer also do an OCD clone (called Rumble Drive I believe - someone correct me if I'm wrong on that) if you're looking for a small/affordable pedal.

IMO, the OCD rocks! Especially if you dont mind losing your low end with it. It does suffer in that arena. But for cutting though and really adding some grit to a little above mild dist, it kills. Ive been using it for a while now. You could also consider a pedal like the B7 or 3K by Darkglass. I know there is more and more metal bassists out there today finding DG and really liking it and adding to their boards. I have a B7K myself and I LOVE it. I wouldn't play without again. There are a ton of options out there nowadays. I would def shop around and try as much as you can. You can find some really great stuff cheap and or expensive. THe EHX Glove is an OCD type clone that can be run at 18v or 9v from an internal switch and the Joyo line has more than a few inexpensive and good selections, the Ultimate Drive and the American. THe American actually is a REALLY great heavy dist if used that way. That is what I was using for heavy dist for a little bit.

But for me, Im in a hard rock band (barely metal I would say at all) and I use the B7K as my preamp, the OCD and a mild grind tone, the Idiot BOx Blower box as a heavier dist (Rat based), the Vick Audio Black Russian big muff, a VFE wood chipper (sort of like a B:assmaser) and lately Ive been trying different things as far as OD goes. EHX Hot Tubes nano, Vick Audio 85 Rat.... I went to those from the Boss ODB3 and still may go back to that one. The ODB3 paired with the B7K is an awesome combo IMO.

Markbass Mini Dist is the of versatility, size, price and sound. I have B7K and OCD, so i know what i mean.

For your needs, the Darkglass B7K and Brimstone XD-2 are king of the hill.

Also, Line6 POD X3/HD (or AxeFX / Kemper if you have the cash). It will take a lot more tweaking to get there, but you can sculpt parallel chains and get that studio sound you're talking about with a bit of tweaking. There are some great YouTube videos showing how it's done:

Check out the Iron Ether QF2, the bronze one is for bass. You can set the Q on a four band EQ which allows you to really dial in a tone. Great pedal

You should check out the Rat. Paired with some good bassy amp tone, it sounds glorious.

ya man fuzzrocious stuff is amazing. I have a darkest driving, and while im not sure it would be great for you since it has relatively low gain, i must say that this thing is amazing. Zero low end loss, endless distortion tone options, clean boost, and awesome artwork! will definitely be ordering from them again.

+1 on the QF2, it's amazing, the copper version has a mix control which will help retain your thump on bass, the gold has a tone control, more for guitar
