Hi everyone!

I'm currently thinking about changing one of my bass, since the stores near me don't have a lot option in stock, I'm thinking maybe someone here could recommend something I haven't considered.

What I currently have:

Fender Jazz Bass USA 1993 (longhorn/boner), highmass bridge, Quarterpounder pick-up, Tuned BEAD. I usually solo de bridge pickup and play with a pick in a Sunn 2000S tube amp with a Sunn 2x15 cab.

What I'd like:

-Something lighter and comfortable to play.

-No short scale.

-P/J configuration are nice but i'm open to other type of pick-up, as long as its distortion/fuzz friendly.

-Passive pick-up.

-To keep the budget around 1000$ (canadian)

- I like "classic" looking bass.

I'm currently considering a used Fender Aerodyne Japan or a new Godin Shifter 4.

Any suggestions?

Hammersmith K series. 33" scale with two pickups. Or one pickup. Whichever.

Gorn's suggestions are good. Both basses are light and sound good. You may also want to consider the newer basses by Gibson (EB series), Ibanez SR (SR500 and up) or even some of the newer ESP or Schecter basses. All of those are available in Canada.

I saw a jazz bass special on reverb. how are the pick-up on these models?

I'm kind of not sure about Danelectro bass and BEAD tuning. Those tuners does not look reliable.

Although it may not meet all your likes, the Reverend Mercalli 4. Is a classic looking retro bass with a lot of modern features.

But if you have specific requirements, perhaps you can assemble one that meets every demand.

They're just normal bass tuners. They have the butter-bean keys to mimic the traditional guitar tuners the original Danos used - and still do, on Longhorn basses. The one in the picture is one of mine - I have 3; and, it handles 45-105 flats just fine. If you like, go on the Dano Owners Forum here and ask about BEAD tuning; I haven't done it with mine, but I'll bet someone has... :)

I have the Godin Shifter Classic 4. I was searching for the right MIA P, but just could not bond with the neck on any I tried, and I tried a LOT. Tried the Godin, and was sold. Fit, finish, components easily the equal of a Fender MIA. And I find the neck to be just right, closer to a Jazz neck than a P neck, and so playable. Very versatile, 4 way switch P, PJ serial, PJ parallel, and J, and all are very useable tones. Looks very nice in satin black burst, but it is not what I would call light.

Either of those two are excellent choices that would fit the bill and match your stated preferences.

The Shifter is a tone machine. Some really good sounds lurking beneath that clever switching arrangement it has.

MIJ Aerodynes are MIJ Aerodynes. If you know what they are and what they can do, nothing else needs to be said about them.

You can't go wrong with either.

I already have a P, but it doesn't cover de tone i'm looking for. Maybe I should just slap a tort pickguard on it? :)

I've never tried a G&L, nobody sell them around here, but i'm quite curious.
