Recommend Me A Cab, Please

I've not really messed with separate heads and cabs before. A thread from earlier about the combo I have got me to remembering that it supports an additional extension cab. It's a Markbass Ninja 102p and it runs at 300 watts alone or 500 with an additional 8ohm cab. I just got an unexpected bonus from work so I think I may get one.

I was wondering if you could help me select a good cab for my wants which are first, sounding good in the practice room and second, having extra volume at the occasional outdoor gig that needs it. Budget wise, I'd like to stay at or under about $1,000.

I watched and read some stuff tonight on speaker pairing but there's still a few questions I have that I haven't figured out yet.
  1. If my amp runs at 500 watts when connected to two cabs, does that mean they are are only getting 250 watts each? Or both still get 500?
  2. If my combo has two 10" speakers, should my extra cab also be a pair of 10" speakers? Or can/should I vary it up with a 12 or 15", or even four 10s?
Thanks!
