Thanks for the input everybody! Some of you guys made pretty interesting comments. Since this is a big step for me I genuinely appreciate everybody's advice here. After some more research and reading some of your comments I believe I'll go the Ableton route (R. Laevinus, ever consider life as a salesman?

My new PC has been ordered and should arrive before the end of the month. Next up will be getting my feet wet...I do believe I'll go with the Lite route first, just to make sure this is something I really want to do. If I find myself wanting to go deeper I'll get the whole thing.
