Recommend me a fretless

I checked your profile, an it says you have a Peavey and an Ibanez bass. My advice would be to go used with a fretless version of what you already have. If you go with the tapewounds (which I have on one of my fretless), and stick with your <$500 budget, I cannot see a huge difference in tone or bass quality. Unless you can pick up a $1200 / $2000 bass used for under $500. Otherwise, with tapewounds, I don't think you will hear a lot of difference in tone.
Getting a fretless "twin" to your Ibby or PV will help your transistion to fretless. As to the questions: dots, no dots, wrong dots, lines, no lines? You will have to learn to play on pitch - sooner or later. I have had both, and my preference is no lines, but whichever you like, you are going to be forced to "hear" correct intonation.

IMHO, there is only one answer to this post:
The fretless version of your favorite fretted bass. This way, you already have the muscle memory for that particular neck profile and know how to dial in and manipulate the tone from your pickups.
If you are not partial to any of your fretted instruments, ignore this post and carry on.

On eBay you could get really lucky and find one of these small-run Japanese bass companies that make really nice-feeling and -sounding basses.
I recently picked up a Bryce 6er fret less and I love it. Pickups are cheap but don't suck that bad, neck is great, tension on the B is good. I have some flat wounds on it, so they sound great too.
Price paid: $230, including shipping, on EBay.

Don't worry, I read all the posts in my threads, I've actually never heard of that company before, I'll look it up and see what I think, but I'm leaning pretty heavily to a Warwick.
Warwicks: New slimmer neck profile became standard in march/april 2009.
Fatneck is what was standard between 98 & 09.
You can now order warwicks with Standard, Fatneck or Extra Slim Neck.
Only issue- the dots are jigged for a fretted bass, so you have to compensate for the fret positions :X I'm going to re-mark each fret.
If I could afford it, I would go for that for sure, but my max would be around 5-600
