Recommend me a meaty Valve amp!

my girlfriend uses a hybrid, one of those bass terrors and although it sounds good, it feels like there's something missing compared to the orange ad 200 that she was using before.
Also, is it me or do hybrids still seem to cost a lot of cash?!

Yeah, some hybrids are quite costly, but still cheaper than all-tubes from the same company (for the most part). I've read/heard nothing but good things from the Mesa M-Pulse hybrids (M-Pulse, WalkAbout, Big Block, Carbines), the Big Block seems to be the darkest/grindiest, followed by WalkAbout, then M-Pulse and Carbines. The GK Fusion is really highly praised too at the local Long & McQuade.

I think Laney makes an all tube head.

I think it's called the Nexus or something.

The Bugera bass amp is on the same lines as the Fender TB-600. Blending the best of both worlds a hybrid.Of course Behringer would not use the qaulity parts that Fender does but it may be a good amp still if it doesnt have power supply issues.I havent read any review yet only whats on Youtube. It sounds good on the vid ??

yeah the vid sounds awesome but if it does end up being a power supply problem then i could wind up with a right turkey!
I am well interested in that peavey amp but they all seem dead expensive over here, is peavey an american brand? I always thought it was english?!

Also, i've seen this on ebay

anyone had any experience with these? The wattage looks a little low but aren't valve amps louder anyway?

and also there's this:

It really depends on what you kind of stuff you play, but in a lot of situations, 50 (tube) watts won't cut it. Although sometimes 50 watts can blow your head off, it seriously depends on the acoustics of the room and your cab choices, a lot more so than if you had a more powerful head.

Hello! So i'm going to get rid of my current amp, i use a separate power/pre and although it's great it just takes too long to setup and is massive. I'm starting to use three separate rigs live now so the easier to setup the better and i've been after a valve for sometime.

Basically i want something that's relatively affordable, has loads of punch/clarity but also has that BIG valve sound we all know and love.

Any ideas of what models to look at? I'm not totally against solid state heads either so if anyone know of anything worth looking at then that'd be great.

This is my band so you might have an idea of what kind of noise i'm looking for Link Removed.

I found old Traynor tube heads to be real nice and relatively affordable several years ago but I don't know the prices now.

wow, i just searched for them and the cost over a grand, is that right?!

They probably cost a bit more on your side of the pond but you can find a used one here for about $500 (~380 EUR).

$899 as I can find online.
extremely wonderful tone and STUPID loud!

If you check the ebay stores you can probably find a new one for about $700.

Round Rock, huh? I spent a few years there: Chisolm Trail MS & McNeil HS.

Peavey is a very American company. Well until they moved most manufacturing overseas. Either way they had previously made every kind of amp, pa system, bass, guitars and even drums in Mississippi.

Traynors are great amps. Not sure about availability in the UK, but they were made in Canada when they were still part of the UK.

Being in the UK can limit your choices quite considerably. I'd agree with whoever said Matamp...they're very customisable (is that a word?) so if you had worries about being muddy they may be able to advise you. I've got a Matamp 2x12 and they're good gys to work with to get what you want.

Also, it's funny you said you have a girlfriend who sold an AD200B for a Bass Terror, and Johnny Roadhouse is your local music store. I bought an AD200 off a girl in Manchester earlier in the year who was replacing it with a Bass Terror. Small world maybe?
