i would trust my sennheiser and shure product over line 6 anyday. not to mention the build quality. UHF is a way more stable frequency, and especially over long distances. i know fora fact i can go 200+feet before i can have any issue with delay. with the shure system it is about 50-100ish. BUT my signal is perfectly stable. no problems.

and im quite happy to say that i will never have a cordless phone, bluetooth device or a wifi signal cut me off mid gig.

Regarding the Mackie - I suppose, but I haven't seen a Mackie mixer at any of my gigs in a LONG time - usually, it's Soundcraft, A&H, Presonus, Midas, etc...

Regarding Line6 reliability - I'm at over 4 years, and over 300 gigs with my XDR-95, with 100% reliability, so I'm not too worried about it...

Whatever works for you, though...

I'm thinking of upgrading to the Line6 from the X2 XDS-Plus myself. On 99% of gigs, I've never had a problem with the XDS-Plus in 4+ years as well.

However, on one big festival show I had to switch to a cable after my bass cutting out in the middle of the first song. The venue's security and production staff were using 900MHz walkie-talkies in the same band as the XDS-Plus and it caused my unit to just turn itself off. I might have been able to find a free channel, but not really possible to do when you are in the middle of a 45 minute set with no down time allowed. Another band had the same problem with the same model, which is how I suspected the interference issue and then verified it with the production staff after the show.

I've had the XDR for awhile and it's fantastic...amazing frequency response...although it can suck down batteries if I'm not paying attention. My one gripe about this version is the completely plastic transmitter...nothing bad has happened to it yet (knock knock), but I'd feel way better about it if it was more robust. I have an industrial piece of velcro fastened to it, with the mating piece sewn on my strap....never budged an inch.

Yeah, they truly do sound great - I'm very picky about my sound, and wouldn't be using them if they didn't sound as good as a cable...

Regarding the plastic transmitters - I haven't had one break yet, and I rock out pretty hard...

Lastly - I've had outstanding results using Hitech 9v Li-Ion rechargeables - definitely much more cost effective than alkalines in this application... I got mine here:

I was in the same battle... I was going to get the Line6 G50, but ended up getting the Shure PGXD for $30 more. It came with a carry case to protect the transmitter and receiver which kind of helped seal the decision for me. So far I like the Shure quite a bit. Only been in basement practice so far, but it has reached from the basement to outside of the house cleanly. I'll update on live performance after next Saturday.

Where did you need 200ft? A stadium? Just curious.

I think the farthest I have ever gone is maybe 60ft, definitely under 100ft. The G50 is supposedly good for 200ft. That 60ft included going through a stone wall with windows. I basically went outside onto a patio.

And the line6 gear is UHF, so I have to agree with you there. I think VHF is basically only for the very low end.

Just for grins, I've already done over 200' with my XDR-95, without a dropout - although I'm almost never more than 100' from my amp during a gig at any time, for the most part...

yeah i did it for kicks and it wasn't that it was needed i just wanted to actually test the 300ft out that they said it could do, but at 200ft i could barely hear what i was playing....lol i was told it was still working, but by the time you go out of a building and 100ft out from there onto the road, you have gone far enough....lol

Just my personal experience, hopefully not the norm. I bought a Line 6 G50 and gigged it about 6 times. Cable and board in transmitter went out. Took to authorized repair shop in July. Repair parts supposedly on back order till October. Just got confirmation replacement transmitter shipped this week. Repair shop blames Line 6, Line 6 blames repair shop. Either way Line 6 said orders are high and production for retail sales take precedence over repair orders. I didnt pay $500 for a gadget i cant get timely repair on you know. Extremely frustrating as I have an opening gig for a National headliner at the end of the month and can't afford a backup. Hope it gets here soon!

That's another reason I went with the Shure PGXD. I've seen lots of comments about long repair times on the Line 6. I have to see any repair comments about the Shure. Also probably because it's newer.

As far as customer service goes Line 6 getting 2 thumbs up
I have a G50 syst that blows away any Samson , Beyer, or Sennheiser syst I have previously owned
I sent my transmitter back to line6 to have them retrofit the TA4F connector from plastic to metal
They emailed me shipping tag and told me time frame.
G50 system is by far the most superior!

Been using my new G50 for the past few weeks.
Tested it in rehersal: loved it.
Used it at a Halloween house party last night: LOVED IT

My guitard/singer got the Sennheiser XSW 72. Last night I compared the 2. This is what I noticed on FIRST IMPRESSION only:

XSW
- Plastic housing
- fragile antenna
- small, weak looking clip on the back
- no display screen on the unit
- mute button

G50
- Metal housing
- heavy duty antenna bud
- heavy duty metal clip
- Display screen
- mute button
- 'lock ability' so you don't accidently mute or change channels

Both sound great and both worked flawlessly but the difference in construction surprised me, especially with the two being the same price.

Back to the G50.
On 'power saver' mode, the generic, no-name AA batteries that come with it have lasted me 2 x 90 minute practices and a 4 hour house party with an hour or two hours left in them (says the unit).

I am completely loving having wireless and I'm glad I saved up gig money for it.

yeah the XSW series does seem like a cheaper feeling unit, but i think that its still built the same as shure's belt packs, but i think that what gives it that cheaper feeling is the texture of the packs. now in saying that the antenna is a little flimsy too, but nothing that a little internal strain relief wouldn't fix with heatshrink...or even doing it externally...i did that with my shure unit i had.

i have the sennheiser ew100 series...amazing!!...

UPDATE:
First real gig with my G50!

Oh my head it was awesome! Heard our band for the FIRST TIME from the dance floor and we had a great mix. Got down off the stage a few times to dance with people and you don't have that weird tense-ness when you are always aware of the chord you may step on.

My guitard had his sennheiser and multiple times his was hissing and popping from some loose wire or something. My G50 was solid as a rock.

LOVED IT
