Recommend me P/J pups

Recommend me a P/J pups. I'm more into a vintage sound and they should be passive.

If money is no object, I'd say Nordstrand-the NP4/NJ4SE set.

If it is, try the DiMarzio DP126 set.

I'm going to have to disagree here. I have these pickups in my fender P/J bass, and while they're great for what I play (hard rock/prog/metal) I would not suggest them for a vintage sound at all.

Hmm.. btw I want P/J pups that sound the fartyest, like elephant farts, like wootens P/J fodera, but that's fodera and pups are probably active... so, like good old vintage passive fender sound

Pick one or the other.

You might have to compromise and settle for hippo farts.

well probably I can't get aggressive farts with passive. So I'm thinking of Jaco like farts (no, not thinking of fretless, he had farts with fretted too).
I'm thinking like this farts here. Yes, I'm not gonna get the same sound because it's J not P/J configuration but I wanna get close to that.

I saw squier logo on his p.. No, It's not octaver, It's the track he's playing over so you get the double feel because of 2 basses

I'm positive it's an octaver.
He said so himself.

so...on this vid I used a Squire Jazz made in Japan 1982. I plug directely in my audiocard (tascam us122) and then I given some colour to the sound with a simply EQ on Cubase. ah! for almost the entire track I used an Octaver effect...like the original Juan's record

Get Stan Hinesly's P/J set from www.has-sound.com. He makes awesome pickups.

It all depends on what you want.

I'm searching for new pups for my pj too.
There's nothing wrong with upgrading your pickups.

I just pointed that he was using a stock 80s japan Squier.

And we all came to the same conclusion: the sound is in his fingers.
And it can be in yours too, and maybe without any upgrade.

Yes, I always say that but it's not the same, on some modern bass or on p he would sound different or with some bad amp with plastic sound

Find someone selling SX pickups when they upgrade. They sound great. Much better than the Dimarzios IME.

First choice.... I like the stock Lindy Fralin "P" with the Fralin Split Coil "J".

Second choice....If you want to save some money you could go with the Duncan SPB-1 with the STK-J1b.

And for J pup should I get split coil hum cancelling or single coil?
That's all.
I've came to conclusion that the best thing is to buy good pups not just a little better because money difference isn't so big.. At least I wont have to replace them again

What about their sound do you think differs from vintage sound? I'm not arguing, just curious. For me, I roll the tone off a bit when I want that 70s sound.

Ok.. in reviews fralins are the best... duncans are not so good but still good and they are twice cheaper than fralins.
