recommendations for bass distortion pedals? please? anyone?

hello...
could someone recommend some good bass distortion pedals? i pretty much like the ehx big muff sound...but maybe i'll find something even better...so feel free to give me some good advice :D
oh, and the price range is between like 80 $ to 100 $...

You're all recommending fuzz pedals for a distortion inqury????

First let me say to the OP, if you use the search function, you'll find that there have been about 1-2 distortion threads per week for the past ten years... so, there no shortage of distortion recommendations to be found on TB.

Second, I recommend shopping for used distortion pedals.

And third in your stated price range, check out a Boss ODB-3 Bass OverDrive.

okay, i think i'll go with the bass big muff then :)
but which one is worth more, the russian big muff, or the american bass big muff?

Depends on which russian muff you get - the old green sovtek issue muffs can go for $400 or more on ebay if they're in great shape. I ended up with a black russian big muff and I really like the way it sounds but I'll never get $400 for it-. My band leader had a really beat sovtek green big muff and it sounded great too but I didn't really hear a huge difference between the two.

If I were doing it over again, I'd either go for the bass big muff or get the BYOC version and make it. IIRC, the BYOC version wasn't any cheaper than a used black russian.

Why are you posting an overdrive when the thread said distortion?

:D

I love tube overdrive, distortion and not so much fuzz.

I started with a bass big muff, it sounded great then i thought about what i didnt like, and noticed it was the FUZZ i didnt like. All that extra little static in the background. So i moved into distortion and overdrive and its all so much better IMO. More defined and articulate. Sometimes you want fuzz, but lots of time you dont.

The bass blogger is a great overdrive/fuzz pedal. It has two option, you can use it as an overdrive and go anywhere from light chunky stuff to hairy stuff, and then flick the switch and it basically becomes a bass big muff (without a few less options). This pedal is a great starter pedal, it doesnt do anything exceptionally well, but it does have lots to choose from at like 50$ used.

Ok... :p

I concede that overdrive>distortion>fuzz lie upon one continuum with only vaguely agreed upon discernible thresholds...

...or are there discernible thresholds that we can agree upon?

:hiding:

(Apologies for being off-toopic.)

I wish there were some kind of way to group them into their own categories but everyone "hears" things differently. There are a lot of pedals that span from one category into the other depending on the player's attack, pedal knob setting, amp being used, etc.

(begin my off topic part of this 'topic')
Somewhere (can not find it now) I remember seeing something about things like chorus, echo, flanging, reverb, (time based not modulation based effects) being classified according to the time in the effect. It was kinda along the lines of less than 50 millisecond was called one thing, 50 to 200 millisecond another and longer than 200 ms yet another.

i am not sure what you meant with 'distortion' but i am assuming Fuzz....

check out this video (16 fuzz boxes compared):

what i realized from that video is that fuzz pedals are more different in looks than in sound, at least for me

all of them are sooo ****in' awesome...
i really don't know which one to buy...i'm gonna lister closely to every one of them, many thanks on the video :)
