Recommendations on what amp to buy?

im currently looking to get a new bass amp as the one i have at the minute is on the way out and sounding not as good as i would like it to. its a Laney 160w solid state amp.
im in a 5 piece band playing britpop/indie style of music and was wondering what amp would be best to get?
we'r playing venues that hold upto about 500 and have started playing festivals so im not totally sure what size of amp i really need, iv been looking at a Ashdown MAG C115-300 Evo III Combo, but as i dont really know much about bass amps i dont really know what im looking at?
any help would be greatly appreciated.

If you can stretch it a bit, in that price range I would get a Marshall MB4410 combo.
It's potent enough for the gigs you describe. I assume outdoor you have PA support.
I love those Marshal MB combos, they seem underrated and not that popular and I don't know why.

Ampeg offers nice powerful combos in that price range also.

I you want seperate head and cab you can only go on the used market I am afraid.
If you do that the cab is most important.
Look for used Hartke 410XL cabs. Not because I also own one but they turn up cheap, perform enormously well and are build like a tank. And can get you a punchy bright tone.
And look for a used Gallien Krueger Backline 600 maybe to go with that. That's my budget rig that can get you very far.

Some Peavey cabs are also good and turn up cheap on the used market, but I am not that familiar with peavey to recommend specific models.

I like Ashdown but I am not a fan of their MAG series cabs and combos.

And you avoided one question. :p ;)

cool i'l have a look into those, cheers

i did also look at the Ashdown Little Giant 1000 head but unsure on what cab...

i could probably push the budget to £500

not sure how to upload pics on here.....hahaha

I have no experience with the Little Giant 1000. But some people on here have them and like them. Keep in mind that is a lot of power.

I am repeating myself: look for a decent cab first!!! :)

Do you have a local used stuff website for music equiment?
Look what bass cabs people have available, make a list of make model and type... and price. And ask here what are good cabs for the money.
If I were you I'd look for 1x15 or 4x10 cabs, sealed for your tone preference.
With or without a tweeter???? that's up to you. I don't like tweeters and my tone is bright enough.
