Recommened flats on a jazz bass

I like chromes as well. But then I have to mention the Detroit Flats from Webstrings. I have a set on my SX P bass and love them! To me that is the P bass sound for oldies rock and Motown!

If the GHS Brite Flats ever go south on me, I will probably put these -

In the light gauge on my Squier CV Jazz.

Like I said, I love Chromes, but am dying to try the light Detroit flats!

I use Fender 9050M's on my Aerodyne Jazz; you pretty much can't go wrong using Fender flats on a Fender/Squier bass.

That said, I use Rotosound 77's on my Ibanez SR505. Don't be scared to experiment a bit to find the strings that best suit what you want from your instrument.

Just bought a set of these for $26 on juststrings.com for my fretless SX. Here's to hoping they sound great!

All you have to do is go online, find the cheapest price, print it out, take it to Guitar Center. They will price match and add shipping cost you would have paid plus tax.
I got them for $29 total cost at Guitar Center

Im about to try a set of flats for my 75 RI Jazz. Im lookin for that JPJones bluesy sound (or close as i can get with what i own).
I tried a set of flats many years ago and what I remember was that they seemed so heavy gauged. They felt like they were gonna pull my neck in two. I was inexperienced then so I may have bought a really thick set not knowing what I was looking for. Do the flats normally seem real thick?
I prefer a medium gauge. I have on some Medium Bass Boomers now and the tension feels good. Which flats have that similar feel in regards to the gauge I want? Im looking towards TIs or Chromes.

I've been curious about trying these, but I am unsure what they will/won't fit.

I'm also trying to get away from super-high-tension flats like Fender's, which are extremely high irrespective of gauge.

But mostly I don't see dropping the kind of money you have to for many brands of flats. $40+ for four strings? Get outta town! :spit:

Lakland Joe Osborn flats are cheaper than TIs and work very well $30 a set direct from Lakland, .46 thru .106. The tension is closer to standard rounds in that size range. Comparing them to TIs, I'd say the JOs are brighter, at least initially, and have a bit more punch than the TIs. If you have heard anything from the Decemberists "The Hazards of Love," you're hearing JOs on a Lakland JO USA JAzz.
