i have an svt 4 pro and with my band ive been sending a pre eqd signal directly into the digitalrecorder we have. it sounds pretty good, but i def need to get some compression on my bass. i have a great comp, maxon cp 9, and the 4pro has it bulit in as well. my question is, how should i go about using the internal comp, my comp, and the svt4pro in regards to recording? should i use the 4pros comp and send a post eq signal to the recorder? or should i use my maxon in the signal too? i also have a sansamp bddi that i messed with a little while recording, but i liked the tone i got from the 4pro better. any ideas or info is appreciated. if you have anymore questions about stuff i need to explain more, lte me know. thanks

recording 4pro direct into mixer??

If it is pre-EQ it is clean basically. What digital recorder do you use?
You could try going from your bass, to the Maxon, straight to the digital recorder?

its a fostex 16 track with cd burner.
when we record, we still play and rock it pretty hard. so id still need to be able to hear myself, along with sending a signal to the recorder. basically im trying to figure out what way to record my bass, so that its comp enough to stay even, and so i can EQ on the fly, based on what song im playing or for whatever. would post eq be the way to go, with the maxon comp in the effects loop?

If you won't be adding any processing afterwards, i'd stick the compressor infront of the SVT-4 pro and then record post-EQ.
That will be the closest you could get to your actual sound. Could always mic the cab (instead or aswell).
The only thing i would be worried about is the quality of the 'peg DI.

ok. the di on the 4pro sounds pretty good. i was kind of skeptical at first, but after the first couple of jams we recorded, when listening to the bass, it sounded pretty dope. so put the comp as a pedal between my bass and the amp, or use it in the effects loop?
It will have slightly different effects on the sound, depending on where you put it.
It'll either compress the signal before it hits the amp, or compress the signal of the amp.
I prefer compression before, but try both ways and see which you prefer
