Recording amp head

I have been trying to find out an answer to this question so I have come to the experts here on TB

I do not gig so this question only applies to recording

I want to record bass into my DAW -- I know I can go direct into my Apollo interface and then add an amp sim but I am looking to get an amp head as well

I have been looking into the following amp heads:

Ampeg PF-20T

Darkglass Microtubes 500 v2

My question is this: The Ampeg has both direct out and transformer out (which would impart the tube sound to the recording) and the Darkglass has the direct out only (as it is solid state). So, would using the Darkglass be the same as going into my Apollo interface directly or does the Darkglass impart a "sound" to the signal like the tubes from the Ampeg would?

From the darkglass website, it seems with the DI you can bypass or use it with pre and cab simulation

Use this connector to send your signal to the console, mic preamp, interface, etc. Both signals are available (Bypass and the amp signal with cabinet simulation) and are switched from the cab select switch.

different DIs sound different, even non-tube ones. try all options and use what sounds the best.

Ampeg PF20T is a great little studio amp can be run direct to the board with no cab but usable volume with a cab too
