Double Bass RECORDING APP FOR PRACTICE

For an iPhone, voice memos is fine. Apple also has a music specific one called Music Memos which offers a little extra useful functionality, and is free for apple users, so why not? Spire is quite nice, and has more functionality, but probably not necessary. It’s a few bucks.

I use an external mic - a Rode VideoMicro, which gives useful improvement in sound quality.

And usually, I record video of my playing, because the added visual information about what I was doing when I made a particular sound is really valuable.

The IOS voice memo uses compression. I found no way to change that to AIF or wave that are uncompressed formats. Or maybe there is also a noise cancellation processing involved. As a result the recordings the recordings from that app are “breathing”.
