Great, thanks for that Jive! that to me gave a better representation of that a one-mic recording will sound like. It's not CD quality but you can hear everything well enough to get an idea of that your band sounds like.

I use a 24 year old Sanyo boom box that has recorded many rehearsals with suprising clarity. My band mates are constantly amazed at the quality. They think I have ripped the guts out and replaced them with the latest digital technology.

Would I use the recordings to give to a club for gigs. Not really. Could I? You bet. I have heard much, much worse recordings of rehearsals where a lot of money, time and effort were wasted for the perfect mix.

For the most part we use a small 4 track tascam thingy that I bought when I was 12. When we plan ahead we get my good friend Tony to use this.

is there anyway for a semi decent cheap way to record rehersals? we use this tiny radio with cassets and it sounnds horrible, ether one instrument stands out or it just sounds so bad and grainy...any help would be appreciated.

Based on advice here I got a Sharp MT 15 on Ebay with 11 minidiscs for $80. I've used it with a Rode NT-4 stereo mic with great results at gigs and rehearsals.

I notice somone said iriver, I also got a iriver hard drive based mp3 player. Ihp 120, these things are awesome. Use it for recording and storing lots of music

I use a sony omnidirectional mic i used to use with my mini disk, you can record really high bit rates and it pics up everything in the room crystal clear. It's so much easier to use then a mini disk due to the fact that it hooks up to your pc and shows up as a hard drive, you can just drag and drop the direct mp3 recordings back and forth. I have 500+ megs of jams recorded over the past year on this thing....

With a mini disk you had to deal with lots of disks and couldnt transfer them to pc very easily(i guess that's their anti piracy measures no line out)
