What are some good but not too expensive recording equipments out there? I've been bassin for about a year, and I'm interested in recording myself to actually be able to hear my playing...

So could you guys name some ideas for me?
And what exactly do I need to have a recording setup on my comp?

My budget, I don't really want to go over like 500.
I just want to invest in something that'll allow me to make some good sounding recordings of my playing.
Well, since I only plan to record myself, I don't need too many.
But maybe 4 if I wanted to record with some friends.

The type of music I'd be playing is rock, mo-town, funk, contemporary christian, and that's pretty much it.

So any ideas?

You should buy an mbox by digidesign, the best small recording interface i have tried and best of all it comes with pro-tools software witch is tha standard in the recording industry !. You can even play with plug-in effects in real time. You can buy one new under 500$ or get one on ebay. I use the mbox (first edition) often for recording my band or live shows with great results.
