So the Zoom Q8 is 4 track capable, but I only see how to record (up to) all 4 tracks at once, what I'd like to be able to do is record overdubs - has anyone figured out how to do overdubs on the Q8, or is it not possible?

I don't have a Q8, but have/had used the H6 for years. Since you cannot route the .WAV files stored in the zoom back to an input track, one basic approach to 'overdubbing' (using the camera) is using one the inputs for the per-recorded audio, coming from an external source. Pull your audio from the camera and feed it back into one of the inputs. Not much different than the old portable two cassette recorders.
