Recording Question with SVT classic

Discussion in 'Recording Gear and Equipment [BG]' started by mpb13, Mar 28, 2009.

  1. I was wondering if it is possible to use an SVT classic' preamp out into a a Korg 32 track, w/o the cabinet. I usually just DI into the 32 track but I'd like to use the ampeg head if I can.

I don't feel like going to get my speaker cabinet if I don't need it.

Basically my question is can I use the head without the cabinet? but it's also a recording question so I didn't know where to put this thread.

It's only possible if you have a 4-ohm dummy load to use in the speaker's place. Otherwise, if you run a tube amp without speakers, its output transformer sees infinite ohms and goes crazy and causes a catastrophic failure if you let it go too long.

Bring the cab and throw a mic in front of it. You'll be glad you did.

Yeah, tube head with no dummy load or speaker cab is bad.

Like if you ever want to use the head again, don't do it bad.
