I tried recording tonight with the Hughes and Kettner Red Box Classic my wife got me for Christmas, and while the sound of the recording turned out very well, it wasn't without issues.
Went through the Red Box using the speaker line of my B-15N to a ART mic pre and into my computer. I got a killer sound, but after I was done I noticed that the amp was a lot hotter than usual. The rec tube was glowing very brightly and the power tubes gave off some heat as well but didn't seem to glow much more than usual. The rec tube was seriously working, though. I took the Red Box out of the line and hooked it up normally and my amp ran fine after that.
So what do you all think is going on here? I've got it hooked up correctly, I think. I should be using speaker cables, correct? The instructions don't say but it would seem to make the most sense. I'd like to start incorporating the Red Box into recording and live stuff with my tube amps because it does sound better than a traditional DI (albeit with a little amp noise) but not if it's going to burn out my amps.
