REDDI Tube DI Mega Thread . Potential megathread that is.

OK, Fileden is finally working for me again, so here's a couple more sets of Sovtek/NOS 65 comparison clips. Also replaced the original clips with some better played clips ;)

I find the difference harder to hear with the Dano finger played, but when picked, and with the P w/ rounds, the superiority of the NOS tubes over the Sovtek is again obvious, IMHO.
I agree that it might be a matter of taste, and that some people could very well prefer the Sovtek over the NOS.
But I find the NOS are adding some warmness and punch to the sound that are coherent with the REDDI's sound.
But some might find it goes too much into a specific coloration.

Congrats on your lifetime stock of 4 tubes ! :)
The hardest part will be to find a place to put aside the tubes, where you'll be able to find them when you need one in 10 years ;)
At least it would be the hardest part for me !

See above. We got that worked out. And I only have 3 NOS, but I do still have the Sovtek so that's 4 altogether.

I just tried out all the NOS tubes before two of them go in The Box, and they're all very consistent and sound about identical to me. That's good. Less to fuss over...I've done enough fussing for one week.

No fussing on my part, just genuine enthusiasm.

So I'm two gigs to the good with the 65 tube in the REDDI, and I didn't get to hear the PA on the first gig, but I swear I noticed a difference when I heard it through the PA tonight. I was standing right next to the PA, and I could hear it pretty well when I stood on the front of the stage. I also hopped out in the crowd a handful of times, and it sounded just a bit fatter on the high notes. The REDDI always sounded weighty on the high notes, but there really did seem to be a little extra push. Didn't do an AB with the Sovtek or anything, but it sure did sound great. Except for my clams ;)

I read the 6BQ7 is supposed to be equivalent to the 6N1P, but I couldn't get much info about swapping possibilities.
JimmyM wisely advised me to stick to the tube the REDDI was designed for.

I should be receiving mine shortly, (couldn't resist) and am very anxious to see how it affects the sound of my ash/maple Sadowsky M5-24. As some of you know, this bass leans strongly towards the modern side, with 2 soapbars. Adding a little body to the higher registers won't be a bad thing here, but at the same time, the glassiness is part of what this bass is all about. My stage rig is basically a monitor to add some girth to the stage sound. IEM's is where it's at! From all I have read, the REDDI shines in that dept.

Hey Jerry, glad you got the plumbing straightened out and now you can proceed to the important stuff ;)

I don't find that the REDDI changes the character of your bass at all. All my basses/pickups/strings/tone settings are intact...there's just more gravity to each note.

Funny how things work out sometimes. I did the plumbing job myself. I figured it was worth a try. It's working fine. (for now) Was it done correctly,

, but I saved over $2k!. So I purchase a REDDI yesterday, and blow the rear end in my SUV today. Another repair over $2k. :mad: Sorry to say, it looks like this one will be left up to the professionals. What the heck, life's to short. Glad I picked up the REDDI anyway.
