I agree with everyone who said to leave it as is. If you were selling there are people who would pay a big premium for it. If you want a bass that looks factory fresh, buy a new / newer one.

I know quite a few people that were grandparents at or before they were 40.

So yes, a 40 year old bass is pretty darn old.

Think of it this way; In 1982, a 1962 pre-CBS bass was considered vintage, and it would have been 20 years old at the time. Now, that 1982 bass is 40 years old, and was still made at the old Fullerton factory.

Your thinking about re-finning that???

The OP isn't considering re-finishing it - he's questioning whether the finish is original, or if it has already been re-finished.

I have the 1982 Fender catalog and the color offered on the vintage reissues was not Olympic White, it was Vintage White which was a creamy "pre-aged" color.

True but that didn't stop those around here from calling it Olympic White, Vintage Olympic White or Aged Olympic White. A local repairman called it Banana.

LOL, you reminded me of something my mother would say everytime she found the backdoor open during cold weather (which my two younger brothers and I did a lot) at our then Eatontown, NJ home. She'd shout "What're we doin'? Heatin' Eatontown?" as she shut the door. I always thought that was rather poetic.
