yeah Brent is a great guy to work with, I'm way stoked to get my hands on it, we're just waiting on the TP from Pecanic to arrive, mine is also a 200 busetto, I'll throw up some pics when I get 'er.
Looks great, it turned out to be a nice, glossy amber.

I think the gloss will tone down a bit when I complete the wet sanding & polish. I water sand first using straight strokes/light pressure with #1000 wet paper with a foam back pad. Then switched circular motion.
I'm going to try some rottenstone with oil as my final step.

Be careful with that Cocobolo, it is a highly allergenic, sensitizer kind of wood. Wear long sleeves, dust mask, gloves even.
After sanding it is no longer a problems, just the dust.

Groove:The tailpiece is a composite for now. I want to play with it for a while .My bass should be setup by early next week.
Hi Ken: I agree . Made a fingerboard for my gourd banjo from cocobolo. Made sure I wore a cartridge mask & taped up sleeves but chose to work with bare hands. I made the mistake of touching my eye area with my hand and was bitching about it for three days. Was wondering if you had a chance to see the finish on my bass? I know its a bit on the amber side & I might want to red- brown it a touch. The glazing you talked about earlier might be
worth a try at this point.

Tom, sorry I forgot my manners...about your bass, it looks nice as it is, the only thing I would say is it seems a bit "peachy" toned. If you are not happy with the color you could try glazing it but that is mixing techniques and a lottttttt more work because after you glaze it you will need at least 3 more coats of clear varnish followed by a complete rub-out. Ask yourself if it is worth it...all the work. How to turn that peach into a red brown is the question. Maybe some blue?

Hey I am still having trouble getting my revarnished bass (seen in my avatar) to buff out. The bass came with a really cheap-looking, airbrushed lacquer finish which was hell to get off. It has about 9 coats of oil varnish on it. Wet-sanded to 1000 which left it a satin finish. It took all the residual brush strokes out, which was cool, but I have worked it over with rottenstone twice and tried auto buffing compound in a feeling of urgency before needing to play it on a gig. That helped some but it's still somewhat dull. It still smells a tiny bit of the varnish - wonder if it's just not cured hard enough to take a gloss yet (although it was varnished about 3 months ago). Does it just need the rottenstone applied with a lot of oil, very little oil and mostly grit, and/or a lot more elbow grease? Any other ideas?

It looks fantastic. Keep in mind that it will darken with age and develop a nice patina. Have fun!
