Reflection Filters & Less Than Ideal Recording Conditions

Because they know exactly what they want. And they book Abbey Road also. And any another studio which is suitable with a purpose. They can rent even public crapper for one percussion hit. I've never heard about any home-recorded, mixed and mastered Grammy-winning song.

Two things: one, those producers don't record in a living room because it's the preferred acoustical environment. They do so because it's a different/more relaxed atmosphere that hopefully helps the artist/band give a better performance. Or because not every project they work on has the budget to book 4 weeks at Abbey Road.

Two, the notion that you can't make good recordings at home because you don't know any GRAMMY-winning examples is just absurd logic. This thread is about using tools to improve the quality of your home studio recordings, specifically vocals through the use of a reflection filter. Nobody is saying a $200 foam gadget is going to turn your bedroom into Capitol Studio A.

Logic was above, when I wrote about acoustic basics. But you don't like my logic so I've tried another approach.

Yes. And, as I said, it is useless, waste of money.
1. Trying to catch sound behind the mic which is cardioid usually anyway? Yeah! Good idea! :)
2. Such thin materials can't work at mid and low range.
 
So how they diffuse waves? :)

The same way any diffusor works: by altering the path of a direct sound and redirecting some of its energy in different directions. The shape of these filters is convex which changes the path of the direct sound thus diffusing the otherwise directional sound. This helps to reduce standing waves and subsequent patterns of phase interference. The convex shape is also designed to partially shield the mic from room reflections, offering a modest level of diffusion & absorption for them as well.

Again I can only speak about the Kaotica Eyeball and though I wouldn't call the improvement "night and day" or life-changing, I would say it is noticeable and welcome.
