Regarding strings for drop-C

I'm really surprised that there is no STICKY for this subject yet.

From time to time I've played in drop D tuning, the slack of the E string dropped to D gives that nice "grind" for heavier music.

What I don't really get is drop C tuning. Why not just use a .125 or .130 string tuned to B?
Maybe I'm just the kind of guy who prefers all my strings tuned 5 steps from each other.

The same can be said for guys that tune to A, why not throw on a .155 tuned to F sharp. Maybe I'm missing something.

b/c B std isn't drop C...

I don't even know what metalcore is. Is it djenty like Periphery or Meshugga?

no but they're all equally terrible (sans the 'Shug, of course ;))

like i said i don't listen to it, but i keep up w/ stuff enough to know the "core" bands are going lower than drop C, hence my comments about why so many inquiries about it.

i think we just need a "drop tuning/alternate tuning" sticky since it comes up at least 3-5x a week... can x-post to the Hardware/Setup section too as it's there a lot also. how do you petition that, aks a mod??

Drop tunings are good for bass power chords across the lowest 3 strings, across a single fret. Also root - octave chords across a single fret. Both easy to play. More range on less strings is a good thing. Taken to it's logical conclusion, multiple drop tuning, results in fifths tuning, which is an amazing tuning.
