Registering a tough part by ear.

Hola,
I'm trying to learn the song "Rough Gem" by Islands, and he is playing way too fast for me to follow. What does one do in this situation?
Here is a link to it, and its at 1:05 when he starts to go nuts that I have trouble.

Also, any ideas on how to play to get that sound? (not what pedals or whatever)
