A few years ago I purchased a copy of The Jazz Singer soundtrack by Neil Diamond. His bass player, Reinie Press, is actually pretty good. I noticed in the inner sleeve that Reinie played a Music Man Stingray bass, which I guess he started using around 1977 or 1978.
I also own a copy of the live album At The Greek, and the inner sleeve shows Reinie with a late period Sunburst Fender Jazz Bass. (CBS era Fender with block fingerboard and enlarged headstock.)
His wife Linda was also a backing vocalist for Neil Diamond for many years. No idea as to what amps Reinie used, but it sounds like he played with his fingers, and probably used either Kustom amps or an Ampeg SVT amp. (Back in the seventies every bassist used an Ampeg set.)
But I hope people like Reinie Press. He was a good bass player.
