Relationship with your luthier/manufacturer

Well, that's where the original questions lie, am I reasonable for trying to build a bridge (even minor) between myself and the person building musical equipment, or should I suck it up and accept that I'll only get a dealer's perspective on a product?

Expecting to have a relationship with every builder of musical gear is a bit unreasonable, imho. Do you need a relationship with the guy that makes your cables might be a bit much......

Haha. I'm seeing this as more instrument and cabinet perspective, and I'm looking towards smaller manufacturers that provide customs, not at bigger companies. If you're offering custom pieces of equipment out to people, that's when I start seeing a person as a tailor that tailors their product to my needs to the best of their capabilities. That's where I'm coming from.
Thinking about it now, this post wasn't needed.

So does this cabinet maker design true customs to the clients specifications?

changes are if you messaged the facebook account of a brand you'll be talking to their social media coordinator/officer/person/whoever not the actual design and build team.

you could have tailored your question to suit "hi there, i would like to know more about the tone of your cabinets/heads/bass, is there any chance i can get the email address of the design manager/team or can my query be forwarded to them? thanks"

good customer service starts with a good customer. not having a dig at you at all. sounds like the chaps building the gear are either busy working or aren't as tech savvy and punctual as people who use it all the time. These are builder and engineers, not sales people.

This is more about guitars than bases but have you ever gone to the Paul Reed Smith website? They have an entire area devoted to the builders of all their guitars, so detailed that the individuals tell a little about themselves and what they do. Color photos of the area they work in even. Maybe PRS is trying to give the potential buyer more info about the builders to answer some of the questions you are asking. It's a cool area in their website - worth a visit.
