Also just remembered waiting in line for a new record to come out. There were even midnight releases for the bigger acts (Metallica, GnR, etc.). Kids, ask your parents!

Nothing changes. There are just more options, today. More opportunities for slipping up, more for salvaging the spirit. Some advances are worthwhile and helpful, no doubt, as time marches on. Especially the thinking on abstract things — forever evolving — and genuine advances in medical matters. I wouldn't want to be battling the elements, twenty years from now, if nothing changes, but I'll be there when the whips are cracking, given half a chance, as always.

my daughter lived near downtown tulsa for about ten years. great place to vacation. fascinating city. coming to terms with its past as well.

san antonio also has the bookstores, record shops, etc. and is also a fun place to vacation.

Yes! San Antonio is great! Not least of which because it's a more charming, less pretentious alternative to Austin.

That may be with book stores but vinyl has been pretty consistently a "thing" for the last couple of decades, at least among the indie/underground/punk crowd. It is harder to find stuff at shops these days, so I do find myself ordering direct from the bands in a lot of cases. And certainly there don't seem to be chain music stores anymore. But I'm okay with that - there are so many good indie record stores that I don't really want the larger stores to come back. Besides, there's still Amoeba in Cali...
