How does it play/sound?
lowsound
Sorry about the delay in response, lowsound - it plays well, pretty close to how it played before. I set it up a little lower than it was before. The bass was playing during the project had a passive P pickup, rosewood fingerboard, and smaller frets. When I first set this one up and played it through a small amp at bedroom volume, I heard waaay more clicks and clacks. I assume that the harder fingerboard and larger frets are responsible for that. At band rehearsal volume, clack noise is unnoticeable, or maybe my technique has improved

.
It sounds good to me, but I'm biased! I think it sustains a little better, hopefully due to the neck joint bondo work. But that could very well be placebo effect - I want it to sustain better! The P pickup is great and bassy, but still pretty defined. The J bridge pickup's output is comparatively weak and kinda thin - I probably have it too low. But I've played it at church and a band gig, and no problems.
It's so much lighter now that I've sawed and sanded so much wood off. When I started the project, I had switched to my Ibanez Roadstar II, a dinky P-style, which was way lighter. This bass is now noticeably lighter than the Ibanez, very easy on the back for the 3 hour rehearsals we do on Thursdays.
