removing a finish question

I've read quite a few posts. but i wanted to ask anyway.
what is the best way to remove this finish. the owner said he did 5 coats of a thin poly. the poly is very thin.

i've read everything from a heat gun to sanding.
I feel like heat gun is overkill because its so thin.

Since it doesn't have grain filler. if i just sanded it, i wouldn't get into the grain correct?

yes, sanding is the simplist way to go, but also the most work. If you decide you want to speed it up, use a stripper such as Red Devil or Strip-eze...even citrus strip works on some poly's. either way you should be fine.
