Double Bass Removing Tape Residue

Hey guys,

I have some glue stuck around the f-holes of my bass from having to put tape over them last minute (feedback). It won't come off with regular polish or cleaner, so i'm wondering what I can use that won't hurt the finish. It's a slap king, it has a pretty heavy finish.

WD-40 and Naphtha (Zippo lighter fluid) are both effective and won't damage the finish; wipe with a soft rag.

Naphtha is what I use - I have a gallon of Coleman Stove Fuel under the bench at the store to deal with the 'Hello Kitty' stickers...!

With any solvent, be sure to test in in an inconspicous spot before proceeding. Naptha, Xylene (I know a lot of people dont like it, but who really needs brain cells), Limonene, mineral spirits are all generally safe for the varnish.

Even if what you use doesnt pull the finish off, often after they evaporate they'll leave a dull spot. This will polish away with a cream polish and a rag (no silicone!).

What has been said above as to testing first.

I use Goo-Gone to get rid of residue of all types.
